Broderick Crawford
North
Georgia artist Broderick Crawford was born and raised in the
Southern Appalachian Mountains in the small town of Tiger,
Ga. Raised by a mother and father who operated a kennel, their
love for animals was instilled into Broderick early on. This
love combined by being surrounded by beautiful mountains and
landscapes in an area deeply rooted in family and tradition,
he gained respect for the natural world at a very early age.
Combing the mountain sides and rivers from his early years
until today, Broderick constantly sees the beauty that surrounds
him and that is what drives his passion to paint.
Coming from a strong genetic background of artistic ancestors,
Broderick is a completely self taught artist. Broderick works
in different mediums, but his personal favorite is acrylic.
He works on both canvases and masonite. He has a unique and
an occasionally varied style. Impressionism, realism and some
abstraction make up most of his work. Through his creativeness,
Broderick hopes he affords his collectors the opportunity
to get to share some of what he sees in the beauty of our
natural world. Some of his collectors compare his work to
the old classic styles of days gone by.
Since he began painting seriously in 1992, Broderick has produced
over 60 Limited Edition prints, numerous originals and commissioned
pieces. An avid competitor, he competes in numerous painting
competitions. He enters the Federal Duck Stamp Competition
nearly every year and competes in most states that open their
competition up nationally. He has placed in the top 10 many
times. His most recent best finishes include 4th place in
the 2005 South Carolina Duck Stamp Competition, with a Black
Duck Painting; 5th place in the 2006 Louisiana Duck Stamp
Competition, depicting a Chocolate Lab and wood ducks; and
6th place in the Colorado Duck Stamp Competition, with his
rendition of a pair of hooded mergansers.
Broderick surrounds himself with his love for the outdoors.
His studio showcases his antique duck decoy collection, antique
fly rod collection, his favorite shotguns, and on most days,
he is accompanied by his two dogs and at least one of the
two family cats.
Most days Broderick can be found alongside his wife Michele
working in their gallery on Main Street in Clayton, Georgia.
Broderick enjoys greeting and working directly with his customers as they stroll into Crawford Art Gallery to see his
newest painting hanging on the wall.
